Reuters Health: Transcranial magnetic stimulation helpful in psychiatric disorders

ShareThere is a lot of research regarding the use of repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) for a variety of psychiatric and neurological disorders. Some of the proposed treatments are premature others have a significant evidence basis for the use of rTMS. Dutch researchers recently reviewed current literature surrounding the use of rTMS in several psychiatric disorders. Their findings were published in Journal Clinical Psychiatry March 9, 2010 online paper. This was reported by Reuters Health in April 2010. Pooled data from multiple studies indicate that repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) is useful for depression, auditory verbal hallucinations, and possibly for negative symptoms of schizophrenia as well, according to Dutch researchers.
