Can TMS Treat My Generalized Anxiety Disorder?

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS), is a relatively new treatment that has been studied for over 20 years. In these years of study, it has been proven as a safe and effective way to treat many mental health disorders.

For those of you who aren’t familiar with the process of TMS, it is the process of sending tiny magnetic pulses into the patient’s head to stimulate the parts of the brain that are affected by a certain mental illness. This is a non-invasive treatment, and it does not require anesthesia. There are limited side-effects, though many patients report that the process feels like you are being repeatedly tapped in the head, which may cause a headache.

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved TMS for the treatment of depression and OCD. Recently, the FDA approved TMS for the treatment of anxious depression, a condition of anxious symptoms mixed with hopelessness and the lack of motivation to do anything about it.

According to, TMS has not yet been approved by the FDA to treat anxiety specifically. However, there is strong research that suggests that this treatment helps with relieving symptoms of anxiety. TMS can be an alternative way to relieve symptoms of anxiety if medications alone do not work for you. Here at TMS Center of Colorado, we can help you with your anxiety by putting you through a round of TMS.

There are many success stories for TMS that prove it is a beneficial treatment for improved mental health if other traditional treatments aren’t working. TMS is a long-lasting solution, with many patients reporting relief from their symptoms for up to a year.
