Deep TMS™ (Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation) for Depression and OCD

At TMS Center of Colorado, we use the Brainsway Deep TMS System which is the only TMS system cleared by the FDA for the treatment of both depression and obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD).

What is Deep TMS?

Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (dTMS) is a non-invasive treatment for depression and OCD. It works by applying brief magnetic pulses to the brain. These pulses create an electric field that has been shown to produce excitations and/or the inhibition of neurons deep inside the brain. Effective results are possible with just a few weeks of daily, short 20-minute sessions.

Deep TMS is able to penetrate deeper into the brain (3.2 cm into the brain versus only .7 cm with standard TMS). Clinical studies have shown this to be more effective than standard TMS in treating depression. If standard TMS therapy hasn’t provided the results you’re looking for, Deep TMS therapy may be the answer.

Deep TMS for Depression

Did you know 30 – 50% of people fail to respond to antidepressant medication therapy?1 In fact, more than 4 million patients do not receive adequate benefits from antidepressants and/or cannot tolerate the side effects caused by them. While the exact cause of depression is not known, the leading scientific theory is that depression is caused by an imbalance of the brain’s neurotransmitters. Neurotransmitters are chemical messengers that send signals between brain cells. Deep TMS therapy is very successful in treating medication-resistant depression, because of its broader and deeper penetration into the brain compared with standard TMS.

Deep TMS for OCD

The Brainsway Deep TMS for OCD used at TMS Center of Colorado, LLC differs from other TMS devices because it can directly stimulate areas of the brain at a greater depth and width, safely and efficiently. One such area is the anterior cingulate cortex, a region known for many years to be directly involved in OCD. TMS Center of Colorado has the patented H7 coil available, which was developed specifically to target the anterior cingulate cortex.

If you suffer from depression or OCD and have failed to achieve improvements from anti-depressants, Deep TMS may be a good option for you or your loved one! Please call our office at 303-884-3867 for a free consultation.

Abbreviated Accelerated TMS

TMS Center of Colorado is among the first to offer Abbreviated Accelerated TMS, a more intense Deep TMS treatment that increases treatment sessions per day but treats depression in just one week. This protocol is off-label, but preliminary results have been very encouraging. When compared with other accelerated TMS protocols, Abbreviated Accelerated TMS takes less time per day and even costs less!

If your location or schedule does not permit a standard 6-8 week course of TMS treatment, Abbreviated Accelerated TMS may be for you. The 90 percent remission rate of depression in a recent clinical study on accelerated TMS is the highest ever achieved with TMS.

Improved patient comfort compared with standard TMS

Standard TMS comes with many restrictions on patient movement during treatment. Your head must be completely immobilized for the treatment to work, and you must sit in a special chair. With our Deep TMS therapy, you have the flexibility to move without compromising treatment accuracy.
